Q: What needed to enjoy HDTV?
A: There are four
key elements you must have in place to enjoy a true HDTV picture:
- The first is the TV, which of course must be HDTV compatible.
- The second is the source (such as an HD cable box, an
HD satellite box or other HD transmission source). You must
have a tuner (or box) that is passing HD signals. Check
with your satellite or cable tv operator as HD programming
must typically be purchased in addition to standard programming.
- The third is your program. Not every show or program is
produced/aired in High Definition: hence, you must be watching
a program being broadcast in High Definition to enjoy that
quality. In fact, some viewers complain that their old TV
produced better pictures on some shows. This is due to the
program in question not being produced in a HD format. The
good news is that more and more programming is being produced
in HDTV format and eventually digital broadcasts will be
all we have access to.
- The fourth and final component of enjoying HDTV is your
cabling. There are only 3 types of cable that can properly
pass an HD signal. In order of preference they are:
- HDMI (High-Definition Multi-Interface) Cable
- DVI (Digital Visual Interface) Cable
- Component Cable (3 plugs red, green and blue)
